ZenitJob · Practical guide

Twenty years of experience in two pages: a CV before and after

You do not need to erase your career. You need to choose what shows your fit for the next opportunity. This example explains what to keep, condense and make more specific.

Fictional teaching example. Names, companies and figures are invented to explain the method. This is not a customer story or evidence of ZenitJob results.

The starting point: experience without priorities

Ana is a fictional sales director with twenty years of experience, targeting a B2B sales leadership role. Her first draft gives her earliest role the same space as her current one and mixes achievements with routine duties. The problem is not a lack of experience. It is deciding what the reader should see first.

Before and after, using the same facts

Before: a duty

Responsible for the sales team, customer follow-up and reporting.

After: scope and contribution

Led 12 salespeople across three territories. Introduced a weekly opportunity review and renewed 8 of the 10 key contracts due to expire in 2024.

The second version is only valid if those facts exist. Neither a job title nor AI can supply them. Here they belong to the fictional case. For your own CV, retrieve evidence you can explain, such as CRM records, annual results, performance reviews or project documentation.

How to divide the two pages

  1. Page one: name and contact details, target role, a short summary and relevant recent experience. Show the business context, your responsibility and contribution.
  2. Page two: earlier experience, education, languages and demonstrable skills. Retain companies, roles and dates; shorten repetitive duties.

Two pages is an editorial choice for this example, not a universal rule or a requirement of every ATS. Technical, academic or project-based roles may require more detail. Adapt to the application and do not shrink the type until the document becomes unreadable.

What we remove, and what we keep

We remove generic adjectives such as “proactive” and repeated references to customer management. We retain career progression, dates and relevant responsibilities. An older role that demonstrates exactly what the vacancy requires deserves space, even if it is not recent.

When you do not have a reliable figure

Do not turn an impression into a percentage. Describe an observable change: “Unified opportunity tracking across three branches into one sales process”. Make your contribution clear when the outcome belongs to a team. A specific, truthful contribution is stronger than a dramatic metric you cannot explain.

Using AI without losing authorship

Ask it to improve wording using your facts, not fill the gaps. For example: “Rewrite this achievement for a B2B sales leadership role. Do not add figures, tools or responsibilities. Flag missing information and preserve dates”. Check the result against your original before using it.

The Harvard resume guide recommends specific, factual language, with quantities where possible. This case, its two-page layout and the editing choices are ZenitJob's own proposal, not an endorsement by Harvard.
